We carried on our fundraising on Saturday night with a gig in Wicklow’s Leitrim Lounge . Our thanks to all those who braved the elements on Saturday night to came along to support us. We were treated to a great night of rock and indie music by local band- Feedback, be sure to catch them next time they are playing at a venue near you! We raised €808 on the night. Our many thanks to Feedback, Clifford & the Leitrim Lounge and also to all the local businesses who were good enough to donate prizes for our raffle.

Platelet update
Unfortunately despite being one of the healthiest men seen by the staff at St James Hospital, Mark was not eligible to give platelets due to having a slightly lower platelet count than is acceptable for donation criteria. Never one to give up, Mark has pledged to become a regular blood donator instead! Eoin was unable to give platelets because of his recent 6 month touring holiday around Asia and Australia from which he returned in June.
Both lads would encourage anyone who is considering donating platelets or blood to contact the Irish Blood Transfusion Board or visit the website ( www.giveblood.ie ) for further information.
Remember- an hour out of your day could save someone’s life!
Training
Mark and William had an early start on Sunday 04 July , getting up at 5am , to be at TriAthlone ’s race briefing for Olympic distance athletes on at 6.30am . After setting themselves up in Transition (set up in the local army barracks) and listening carefully to the race briefing the two boys joined spectators in watching the first waves of tri-athletes setting off in the water while waiting for their turn at 8.40. The early morning start and the wet weather had an adverse affect on spectators. However those that did venture out were treated to a fantastic display of swimming by all athletes. William was first out of the mile long swim , having completed in 36 minutes while Mark followed within 5 minutes. Encouraged by the cheers of the crowd Mark made up the 5 minute gap between himself and William on the cycle with Mark nudging ahead in the second half of the 40km cycle . There was very little separating the two boys as they made their way into transition for the second time to leave back their bikes and head out for the 10km run . William took a slight lead on the run and crossed the finish line first with an overall time of 2 hours and 55 minutes , with Mark finishing the race at 2 hours and 56 minutes . A close run race by all accounts! Both of these Olympian Tri-Athletes should be proud of themselves, finishing 16 th and 17 th overall in their category- a fantastic triumph that speaks volumes about their commitment to training and their fitness levels. Well done lads!
Super-duper tri-Athlete James Hoare was also taking part in the Olympic Triathlon in Athlone representing Ireland in his age category he was up against Europe ’s finest competitors and finished in a time of 2 hours and 8 minutes . An amazing time and also one that means William will have to wax his legs!! Finishing just outside of the handicap of 45 minutes set by James has resulted in William losing the bet and losing the hair on his legs! Hard luck William!

Grafton Street fundraiser pictures
Below are some pictures from our recent Grafton Street collections held on 12, 19 and 26 June. As you’ll see the lads were joined by some “super” helpers. Thanks to all those who stopped to donate or just to chat about our journey.
Our last two collections are taking place in the same spot on Grafton Street on 10 and 17 July so drop by if you are around town!
€800 Raised in Leixlip!
Our table quiz went off with a bang in Leixlip last Friday. Great craic was had and a table of local lads made off with first prize.
The raffle, with a whopping 25 prizes, was a great success, with enticing hampers and other lovely goodies from our kind sponsors.
Local photographer Rob Love from the Liffey Champion was on hand to take pictures of the event.
We’d like to say a big thank you to Micheal Kearney for writing the questions and hosting the event, Mary Lyons and Betty O’Dwyer for helping out, and to Pat Morgan for keeping tabs on the scores. And let’s not forget St. Mary’s GAA and staff for all their help!
Last but definitely not least, I’d like to thank all our sponsors for the night, especially SHS Sales and Marketing for the wonderful hampers.
