Goodbye Party in Whelan’s, Dublin.

Thank you to all who attended the Cycle of America 2010 Goodbye Party!  Three wonderful Irish bands – Radio Kaliningrad, Chayka and Brazen Lungs – wowed the audience at Whelan’s last Sunday.  Circa 10 o’clock the whole CoA2010 Team took to the stage, and Mark delivered a heartfelt Thank You speech to the rapt audience.

Thanks must also be given to the bands, without whom the night wouldn’t have been so enjoyable.  They are:

Liffey Champion

Peter Kelly of the Kildare newspaper, the Liffey Champion, wrote this great article about the Cycle of America 2010.  Peter and the Liffey Champion have been great for advertising our events and helping to publicize the Cycle.

Sponsored Shaves!

On Wednesday the 21st of July, Jim Lucey (father of driver Donal Lucey), will undergo  a charity shave in the Jobstown House in Tallaght. His beard, which has not been shaved for quite possibly decades, will be forcibly removed.  If we raise enough money then the eyebrows might have to go too! If you are in the Tallaght area and feel like a laugh, please drop by and support the Irish Cancer Society!

On the same day, his friends Ed Smith of Hopewell, Virginia, and Frankie Eickhoff of Cottondale, Alabama, will also bravely remove their facial hair for the LIVESTRONG Foundation. Thanks to Sarah Smith for cornering the hairy fellows so we can shave them! If you can’t make the events, check back here for before and after pictures!

In a massively impressive time of 31.53, Jimmy Hoare won first place in the sponsored 5 mile run that took place in the Glen Royal Gym in Maynooth on Friday 9 July .  Well done to all other participants who put up a fantastic challenge and ran incredible races, however there could only be one winner!  Jimmy won a €100 voucher for Carton Square .  A big thank you to Shane O’Malley and James O’Neill for taking part on the day. Due to the efforts of these three lads who gave up their time to help raise money for us, €290 was raised for the Irish Cancer Society. Pats on the back lads!

Rain soaked grafton street collection

Despite the lashings of rain, our dedicated team were out once again on Saturday (10 July) collecting money from generous passer-by’s.  While the bad weather did impact the number of people on Grafton Street this weekend, the generosity of the people was not dampened!  This Saturday we collected approximately €520 .  Thanks once more to the people for their kindness, interest and support.  We have one more collection on Grafton Street , next Saturday (17 July) before the team begin to head over to the states.  Be sure to come over and say hello if you’re out and about- all your support is greatly appreciated!
